The Minority Advocate is a blog dedicated to the rights of the individual. Its purpose is to analyze various political, economic, and cultural topics with an eye toward individual liberty.
In all of the Minority Advocate’s analyses, the following assertions apply:
- Man is an end unto himself.
To wit: “Society” is nothing more than an abstract concept describing a group of individuals. It may sound simplistic, but it is worth mentioning that there can be no society without individuals. For this reason alone it should be clear that safeguarding the rights of the individual is paramount to the continuance of society. To compel the individual, by means of political force, to serve “the public good” violates the rights of man and is patently immoral. - Capitalism is the most moral system of human interaction.
Laissez-faire capitalism is the only economic system characterized by free and unregulated trade between individuals. Any system short of pure capitalism (including the mixed economy of the U.S.) involves some degree of coercion on the part of the government, and constrains the liberty of the individual. To quote former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan: “At the bottom of the endless pile of paperwork which characterizes all regulation lies a gun.” -
The role of government is to protect the rights of the individual.
Government is necessary to safeguard the individual from foreign and domestic assaults upon his life and liberty. It is the role of government to act as the individual’s representative in all cases where force is prescribed (i.e. foreign attack, criminal assault, etc.). It is also the role of government to act as arbiter in civil proceedings between individuals. It is not the role of government to serve the needs of various groups, in the name of “social justice,” at the expense of individual liberties.
Although the Minority Advocate’s analyses may seem heartless to some, knowledge of the above assertions should make it clear that the opposite is true. The Minority Advocate is concerned with the individual’s right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, wealth, education, party affiliation, or any other label currently used by some to gain power over the one.
